BUSINESS PLAN for OUDTSHOORN
HOLIDAY TRACK & FIELD ATHLETICS
presented by OAAC
THE PROJECT
An
exciting 90 minute summer holiday track and field
athletics meeting with senior and junior South
African track and field stars from around the
country is scheduled for Friday night 18 December
2009 on the tartan track in Oudtshoorn. The meeting
is ASA and ASWD accredited and the intention is to
establish an annual exciting tourist attraction and
an opportunity for athletes on holiday to showcase
their best performances at the peak of their summer
training programs in the build up to the series of
meeting awaiting them at the beginning of the next
year.
The project is an initiative of an ex top national
middle distance athlete and business man of
Oudtshoorn, Hans van der Veen.
A vast number of national athletes on holiday at
that time of the year in the Southern Cape discussed
the possibility of such a meeting with Hans and ASWD.
Oudtshoorn boasts the only tartan surface in the
region which is by far the most popular area for
summer vacation of athletes from the north.
The possibility of the inclusion of a street mile
and a wheelchair street mile has also been tabled
and every effort will be done to ensure that
disadvantaged and disabled athletes will also be
able to share in the holiday athletics fun for a
major holiday crowd.
Marketing will be to such an extent that
holidaymakers from all over the and the Garden Route
and in the Klein Karoo will be actively involved in
an interactive fun and athletics program, as
professionally presented as Oudtshoorn did it with
the national ABSA and Yellow Pages meetings hosted
by the town at several occasions.
WHAT DO WE WISH TO ACCOMPLISH?
The goal is to set an national summer holidays
participation opportunity for top and other athletes
from the region and in this region during their
Christmas break. Ultimately the event will become a
standing, sponsored track and field event on the
calendar of ASWD and of Athletics South Africa (ASA).
It will not only showcase South Africa talent but
eventually also international talent and South
Africa’s world champions.
The Athletics and fun aspect of the meeting will
combine effectively to become a popular and highly
rated impact filled spectator event, which will not
only attract visitors from all over Eden at the time
but will also offer interactive stadium and booking
events and competitions for spectators.
The meeting will become a major exposure event for
Oudtshoorn businesses and service providers who
would like to reach the holidaymakers and athletics
supporters (normally a higher end market averaging
between LSM 6 -10).
