The Nedbank National Championships for physically Disabled & Visually Impaired is held annually, to showcase the very best Para athletes South Africa has to offer. Each year a province is awarded the honours of hosting this prestige’s event.

Nedbank’s sponsorship of sport for people with disabilities dates back to 1992 and includes the sponsorship of the South African Paralympic team, and the Nedbank National Championships for the Physically Disabled. Nedbank has been sponsoring the South African Paralympic team since South Africa’s readmission to international sports tournaments in 1992.

The team consistently delivers exceptional performances. In Beijing in 2008 Team SA won 21 gold, three silver and six bronze medals, which resulted in them finishing sixth overall out of 147 participating countries. At the London 2012 Games Team SA secured 29 medals, consisting of eight gold, 12 silver and nine bronze medals. In a demonstration of Nedbank’s ongoing commitment to athletes with disabilities, the bank has renewed its sponsorship of Team SA ahead of the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

As a proud sponsor of Team SA, Nedbank has made a substantial investment in the growth and development of South African athletes with disabilities through the Nedbank National Championships for Physically Disabled. This multisport event has proven to be the feeder system for the national Paralympic team and other representative teams since its inception in 1992. The championships, which is the biggest multidisability and multisporting event for the physically disabled in South Africa, also includes athletes who are visually impaired and blind.

The bank has renewed its sponsorship of the championships until 2016 to coincide with its sponsorship of the South African Paralympic team.
