12 March 2020 – The South African Association for the physically disabled would like to assure athletes, coaches and officials that the upcoming Toyota National championships for the physically disabled will go ahead. 

The National institute for communicable diseases confirmed this morning that the country has 17 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

SASAPD are monitoring developments closely and will be guided by Government if there are any precautionary measures that need to be taken by the organisation regarding the upcoming competition. 

The association would like to encourage athletes, coaches and officials to protect themselves and those around them by doing the following: 

  • Wash hands frequently 
  • Maintain 1 metre distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
  • Cough or sneeze into a tissue or bent elbow
  • If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing seek medical care early

The 2020 Toyota National championships for the physically disabled will be hosted by Nelson Mandela Bay in the Eastern Cape from the 21-25 March 2020.
