Boccia was traditionally a recreational sport for athletes who require a wheelchair because of physical disability that is similar to boccia.
It was originally designed to be played by people with cerebral palsy but now includes athletes with other severe disabilities affecting motor skills.
It became a Paralympic Sport in 1984. Boccia is active in Gauteng, KwaZulu Natal, Western Province, Eastern Province,
Free State and Limpopo.
